R210 II - can't update Bios

Hello

I have swapped a motherboard on a R210 II

the one I bought from ebay has bios 1.1.1

I have run LCC and it wont update, it just gives errors to do with file missmatch

I've installed windows 2016 and tried updating the bios from exe files to 2.8, 2.2 and 1.3 but it doesnt work it says successful and reboots normally with no upgrading of the bios.

today I tried resetting the jumper for NVRAM which didn't help

I've now installed centos 6 and run a FW update to 1.3 like below:

when it reboots, it reboots normally and still shows bios 1.1.1 like below:

I've also tried resetting drac card (drac enterprise fw 2.85)

Hi

It maybe worth reading all of my post

1) it's only outdated from the motherboard replacement

2) I tried LCC too so this rule out windows 2016

3) I have tried loading centos 6

4) I am trying good 1.3.1 to do one step bios update which is too failing which is shown in the screenshot

Hello.

Windows Server 2016 has not yet been validated on Dell servers.

Your system is way out of date. Look at other BIOS versions and try gradually updating up to the last 2.8.0 release and see it will be helpful.

You may consider to first stop OMSA services before applying update. The service(s) may not correctly stop during the update process. Run this command before applying the BIOS update, srvadmin-services.sh stop and try again. Uninstalling and Re-installing OMSA may also help before applying the updates.  http://www.dell.com/support/manuals/us/en/19/dell-opnmang-srvr-admin-v8.2/SAIG_Linux-v5.1.1/Copyright?guid=GUID-0DE9A180-9449-41AC-A775-ACABC49472F0&lang=en-us

Hello

Sorry for the delay I never got a notification of your response.

I tried from System services and I get this error:

I did some research and I think this error maybe related to the fact its going from 1.1.1 to 2.8.0

I booted in to Centos with no Dell open manager etc installed and downloaded 1.3.1 from http://www.dell.com/support/home/uk/en/rc1050266/Drivers/DriversDetails?driverId=JVPR5&fileId=3283453827

[root@localhost ~]# chmod +x BIOS_JVPR5_LN32_1.3.1.BIN
[root@localhost ~]# ./BIOS_JVPR5_LN32_1.3.1.BIN

Collecting inventory...
....
Running validation...

BIOS

The version of this Update Package is newer than the currently installed
version.
Software application name: BIOS
Package version: 1.3.1
Installed version: 1.1.1

Continue? Y/N:

then after a few minutes:

The BIOS image file is successfully loaded. To apply the BIOS update
successfuly, the OMSA data manager service is stopped. Reboot your system to
complete the update. Do not shutdown, cold reboot, power cycle, or switch
off your system before the BIOS update is complete.  Restart your system
for the update to take effect since the update will be incomplete until you
reboot the system.
Would you like to reboot your system now?
Continue? Y/N: Y

the system then goes down and stays offline for 3-4 seconds, it then comes back online with no errors on screen and boots in to 1.1.1 and not 1.3.1

HI

I have found a way to fix this and make it upgrade from 1.1.1 to 1.3.1

for anyone else having this issue, here is the fix.  You iwll need a spare USB disk.

1) download Dell Bios 1.3.1 unpackaged version (or whichever version you need)

2) download rufus https://rufus.akeo.ie

3) format the disk and set it to FREDOS and Fat32

4) copy your bios file over to the USB stick

5) rename the file ie bios.exe

6) boot to USB disk on the server

open the BIOS file from command line

I got an error at this step saying:

Cannot use  a "PowerEdge T110 II" BIOS

 In a " "

 Rom update not performed

if you get this re-execute the file as: BIOS.exe wipeclean -forcetype

this will force the update and also reset bios at the same time.

I am also trying to upgrade my BIOS. I want to upgrade from 2.8.0 to 2.9.0. I have a Dell Poweredge T110 II that I am using on a test network that I am using for my certifications. This is my configuration:

EFI

SATA

I do not have a raid controller card installed

I have a 2.0 USB on the front USB jack

USB is set as 1st boot device in the EFI boot order

I have server 2012 r2 running from a clean installation

I am following your instructions from your post.

When I try to boot the server from the USB stick, it doesn’t load the BIOS program-- it just boots right to windows. EFI and Windows can see the USB stick. The EFI boot order is correct.

I am using the 2012 r2 version of this file from the Dell support web site:

PET110II_020900.exe

Do I have to unpack the BIOS file?

I think I may be able to do that. I have never done that before. Thank you for your assistance.
