RE: R210 CPU upgrade
Hello.
What is the P/N of this processor? The parameters including frequency, cache, power rating etc should match the ones on the supported L3426 processor.

Hi there,
I'm getting Access Denied to reply to my original post, so replying here to the question from Robert. This is the information I got from eBay listing:
Processor Type : Xeon
Socket Type : Socket LGA1156
Bus Speed : 2.5GT/s
Clock Speed : 1.86GHz
MPN : BX80605L3426
CPU Socket : LGA1156
EAN : 5032037009874
Does it help? Otherwise, where do I get the part-number?
A picture of the actual CPU is also attached.

Hi there,
I just got a PE R210 (from work) with a stock i3-540 CPU. I was looking for a low TDP CPU and found Xeon L3426, which is in the R210 supported CPU list. Is it possible to upgrade/replace?
My first attempt with L3426 failed and seems to me not starting at all. Server is starting, no error sound but display is not coming even after a min or so. What am I missing or doing wrong?
Best, Santanu

BIOS and all the firmware is updated to their latest. What error indication I'm supposed to see/hear if the CPU is faulty? Does it take a bit longer than the usual to boot when it detects the change in CPU etc. ? anything to do in/with BMC?

It does look supported. Inspect the processor for any physical damage and update the system BIOS. Otherwise, you might consider replacing the processor service kit P/N 74MP4 and for a bare CPU P/N 67CJN.

Ok finally worked. For some strange reasons, I had to swap the memory slots (from black to white) to get the memory test passed.
But CPU temperature is very high, around 78C in average, for no good reason. I only run pfSense on that box and previously was 38C to 40C. Something in the BIOS/BMC need to be readjusted?
