Server on always or shutdown it the night

Good morning

I have a question for my Dell server.

I use my server only in my  company

and not for to access to it by external places.

There are 9 hours almost

that the server is on without to be used.

Is it advisable to shutdown the server

for example at the 23.00 PM and to start it at 9.00 am

or

would be on always ?

Leave it on.

  • Servers nowadays cost "dollars" per year to leave on.
  • You don't have to remember to power it on every morning.
  • If the server doesn't boot up, then it won't affect business while waiting for it to be repaired (you can plan your reboots on the weekends or after hours to limit the effect of potential downtime).
  • Servers are designed (but not required) to stay on 24x7.
  • You should make sure to protect the server from unplanned shutdowns from power outages (using a UPS) if leaving it on.

Or ... turn it off.  It doesn't matter.

Jhon_99,

That is a tough question for us to answer. It is mostly up to judgement, and is completely dependent on the servers environment, be it a climate controlled clean room or just in the office.

If you could, would you please give us a little detail on what and where, and we can give you our opinions on it.

Thanks.

Yes, i can.

The server is just in office.

Is it damaging for the server shutdown it each end of the day ?

Is it advisable shutdown it each end of the day to save on the electrical consumption ?
