Upgrading SAS/ir to Perc 6/i

The PERC 6/I is not a validated card for the R610, so it may not work in the integrated storage slot. Does it do anything before the system halted message? Is the system bios and PERC firmware up to date

Thank you very much for your reply. The server does not do anything prior to halting, save for spinning up the fans. Nothing appears on the screen prior to "System Halted".

The BIOS is up to date, and the Perc is at 6.2x (6.33 is the latest). I tried to update it when it was in the PCI-E slot, but was unable to via both the Lifecycle controller, and the update ISO. The Lifecycle controller did not even notice it was there, and I imagine the ISO is doing the same.

Everything I read said that the card I bought was compatible with the R610. I guess compatible ≠ validated.

Is there another card I should be looking at, like the H700, or is there a model of Perc 6/I that IS compatible with the R610?

I've seen PERC 6/I part numbers DX481, WY335, 0DX481, H726F, T954J, and JT167 all referenced as compatible with the R610.

The H700 integrated would be the best option. Part number KK67X.

According to the tech guide, it should be used in the storage slot.

The H700 is certainly the better card, but the PERC 6/i should work.

I'm a little confused.According to the tech specs (Pg 9, & Sec. 12.4) (http://www.dell.com/downloads/global/products/pedge/en/server-poweredge-r610-tech-guidebook.pdf) the Perc 6/I is compatible with the R610.

What makes this card invalid for this system? Is there a different model number of Perc 6/i that would be compatible with this, or is there something that I am doing wrong when installing the card?

Thank you for your reply theflash. I posted my reply before reading yours. I am seeing the same thing you are. I am not sure why it is not working. I ordered another from eBay ($15) and will see if that helps. I'd prefer to stick with a $15 card, over a $200 for my home lab.

It is just strange that it recognizes the card when plugged into a regular PCI-E card, but not the internal storage port.

It must be the "integrated" version to work in the storage slot, not the "adapter" version. Maybe Josh can confirm that the part number you have is the "integrated" version. The "adapter" version would only work in the non-storage slot.

That makes a lot of sense. I did not know there was a difference in the two (PERC 6/I, PERC 6/I Integrated). Thank you.

You are correct, the PERC 6 should work, I was looking at the wrong system, sorry about that. From what it looks like T954J is the integrated version. It doesn’t specify but the PERC6/I adapter versions say adapter in the description and this one doesn’t.

Is there any way to tell what model it is by looking at it?

It might have a part number sticker that says what part number it is, as for integrated or adapter, they are physically the same, just different firmware, it may say if you boot with it during post.

Ok. Thank you for your help. I can't find the correct model, but when I boot it via the PCI-E slot, it shows "Perc 6/i Adapter". I'm guessing if it were the correct one, it would show "Perc 6/i Integrated".
