we would like to replace existing 1GIG NIC (quad port) with 10GIG NIC (dual port)

There is this P/N PW4FJ QLogic 10GB supported card with SFP+ that you can install based on PCIe slot priority 3,2 &1.

Hello.
What server model? You will have to make sure that the 10 Gig NIC is supported on the server and that the NIC firmware and drivers are up to date.

PCIe slot priority represents the order in which cards are installed on the existing PCIe slots on the systems board. In this case, the NIC ought to be installed on PCIe slot 3, it the slot is already in use by another card then install on slot 2. If slot 2 is in use install on slot 1. The card will not work if this priority is not followed.

Yes. In this case, the NIC ought to be installed on PCIe slot 3, it the slot is already in use by another card then install on slot 2. If slot 2 is in use install on slot 1. This is for future reference.

Looking at compatibility information, I do see this card listed as compatible with the R620 server.

Yes, the slot priority will be the same for the same hardware component on the same server platform.
