expression card Poweredge R730
Hi Guy's,
We have a PowerEdge R730, that we bought with 8 drives and it has still 4 empty slots for new drives but there are not controleres behind them so we can not add any new drive to it.
Is it possible for us to buy some sort of expression card that allow us to add 4 more drive to this server?
Thanks

The server configuration that was purchased from us has an x8 backplane. That means it supports a total of 8 drives.
Changing the backplane is not supported. There are R730 configurations for a 2.5" x16 backplane. You can try installing that backplane, but I don't know what parts will be required or any issues you may encounter with swapping the backplane.
Thanks

Hello
I show that the system was ordered with an 8x2.5" backplane, H730 integrated RAID controller, and 8x600GB 2.5" SAS drives. The system configuration that was ordered from us fully supports and was sold with 8 drives. If your configuration is different from what was ordered then please explain what your current configuration is.
Thanks

Hello Deniel,
Thanks for the update,
We did not change anything regarding the hardware configuration, we did just configure some RAID and virtual disks.
Do you mean with the current configuration we can add more hard drives to our R730?
Can we added a new 8x2.5 backplan to our R730?
Thanks

The system was sold with an 8x2.5" backplane. If you are still using the original configuration then you can put up to 8 drives into the chassis. if there are any blanks covering slots then you can remove them. We do not provide extra carriers, so any additional drives that you install will require drive carriers.
Thanks

Hi Daniel
Sorry but Do you mean there is no other way to put extra 8 drives in the server?
can we replace the current backplane from 8 to 16?
