Adding PERC4-DC to Poweredge 2850

I am trying to install a PERC4-DC into a Poweredge 2850. My main goal is to add 4-300 GB drives in RAID 5 for lots of file storage. I currently have two 73 GB drives that are mirrored via Windows 2003 Disk Manager. It has been suggested that I upgrade the internal controller, but I already purchased the PERC card and would prefer to get it installed at this point if possible. I have loaded the Windows drivers off of the Dell Website for the card and Windows seems to recognize the new card. Problem arises when I connect the old drives to the new controller and try to boot. Windows starts to boot and then continually reboots. When I press F8 and watch the boot it seems to hang on the acpitabl.dat file and renboots at that point. Do the old drives have to be initialized on the new controller or can they be moved over as I am trying to do. Should the Windows mirror be broken and booted as a single drive. Any help or suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks!

The original drives were the embedded SCSI controller. No RAID. Good to know this should work.

However, they do not seem to want to boot up. Windows starts and then continually reboots. I have read some about Windows hanging on this acpitabl.dat file. Some BIOS issues, some SP1 issues. A few things I can try it seems, but looking for something a bit more concrete if anyone knows.

Were the original drives attached to an array controller or just a SCSI controller?  You can not move drives from a SCSI controller to the Perc4 array controller without data loss.

I don't think that you read my post closely.  Let me state it a different way: If you move drives from a SCSI controller to a Perc4 you WILL lose you data on the drives.

Even if they are kept as stand alone drives and not made part of an array?

Question for someone in the know?

Can I split the backplane using the SCSI backplane daughter card and connect plane A (Drives 0,1) to the embedded SCSI channel A, and plane B (Drives 2-5) to the PERC Card channel A?

Please advise.
