Adding new HDD to Power Edge 2800 Server

Welcome all,

I need to add one more HDD to my Power Edge 2800 Server. After sliding in caddy with new HDD I cannot find it under BIOS or Dell OpenManage Server Administrator interface. Server is running with only one HDD at the moment so I am trying to add a second hard disc. Server is running on Windows 2003.

Could anybody provide me some instructions please? All your help is much appreciated.

Go to Storage, click on PERC 4e/Di, then the Information/Configuration link at the top, then choose Rescan from the drop down menu of available tasks for the controller.

Are the lights on the drive on?  Do you see your "first" disk in OpenManage (sometimes the Storage portion doesn't get installed?  Do you have RAID enabled?  If so ... if you enter CTRL-M, can you see the drive under Objects>Physical Disks?  Should show as READY.

If you go to your Physical Disks (not Virtual Disks) under Storage>Backplane/Connector, you should see the drive there - that is the only place it will show up.

You can do it one of two ways ...

Easy - Boot to CTRL-M (during POST), go to Configure>View/Add, hit Space Bar on each of the two new drives, then F10.

Easier - In OpenManage Server Administrator, you should see the drives under Storage>PERC 4e/DI>Connector/Backplane>Physical Drives showing as READY.  If so, go to Storage>PERC 4e/Di>Information/Configuration (link at top of the page), then select Create from the drop down of available tasks for the controller.
