Array Manager & Promise S150 TX2 Shows Drives as part of an array but wont show array

Hi Guys,

Hoping that there is a simple fix for this. I'm not sure why this is occurring but the Array Manager software for my old 400SC with Promise S150 TX2 raid controller refuses to show the array as a seperate object. The array is configured as RAID 1, and from within the bios of the promise controller the array is formed correctly and also operates correctly as a single disk in windows.

See this picture to get an idea of what I'm looking at:

As you can see, the software knows that the drive is part of an array (Assigned to an array), but will not show the actual array. Therefore I have no control of the array from in Windows. Operating system is win2k3 server. I've made sure I have all the driver updates and Bios updates from Dell.

As an added note, the array was created from the bios (Ctrl-A during bootup) as the OS is installed on the array.

Anyone got any solutions?

Cheers,

Hi Redefine,

Sounds like it's working as designed, the array manager gives you management of the array, and the operating system just sees it as a single drive. This is exactly the way it's supposed to work with a hardware RAID. Even if you had a 10 drive RAID 10, all the O/S would "see" is a single drive.

Hi Gary,

I understand that the array is operating correctly, however the Array Management software isnt actually picking up the array. Usually in array manager there will be a seperate object to indicate the array between the two drives.

When the array object is showing, the software also monitors this array for any faults, and gives you the option to synchronise, rebuild from within windows etc. Without the array object showing in the software, none of these options are available from in windows.

See picture below as to how the array object usually shows within the software.

Do you have any other ideas?

Hi redefine,

Well I suppose the problem could be that your RAID controller is not in the list of supported controllers. (The F/W is not the Dell version.) Did this used to work? What has changed? Review your change logs and perhaps roll back the last F/W update on the card. Other option is to use the management S/W offered by the card's maker.

If you do uninstall the Array manager, use a OMCLEAN utility from your open manage media to clear all the registry entries. You could try uninstalling all open manage utilities, run OMCLEAN 4-5 times, then reinstall the openmanage utilities. ISO files are available on the file library so you can install the latest versions instead of installing old version and updates.

Good luck,
