Bad Slot on Backplane?
Hi - thanks for the help in advance....
Dell PE2900, RAID5, 3 disks. Disk in slot0 appeared to have failed, so I replaced with identical new disk. Rebuilt successfully. 3 weeks later, same problem. My suspicion is that it's the slot on the backplane, not the disks. Is it possible to move the disk to slot3, leaving slot0 empty, and have that new disk re-join the RAID array? I tried this and it showed up as a foreign disk, with no apparent way to join it to the array.
Thanks!

Yes, you can put the disk in any slot ... you will need to Clear the Foreign Configuration first, then assign it as a hot-spare to rebuild it.
Do you have OMSA installed? If not, what OS?

K, then you can go to Storage, PERC, Information/Configuration (link at top of page), then Foreign/Clear from the dropdown menu of Available Tasks for the controller.
This can also be done in the CTRL-R utility during POST ... VD MGMT, highlight controller, F2, Foreign/Clear.
