Converting t310 from sata to sas raid

Looking for advice please I have bought a T3 10 which is SATA only so no raid card or back plane or anything else. I would like to use the SAS drives I already have  in this server. What should my shopping list be to accomplish this. Is it even possible not sure if the motherboard will not accept raid backplane etc

The service tag is is

Thank you

I believe you are having a cabled hard drive system. If you need to use PERC controller on this system you need to use a PERC controller and use correct cable for the controller. Both PERC 6 and PERC 7 is supported on T310. Based on PERC controller you are going to order you need to use appropriate cable

Cable for PERC 6

D385M -  ASSY,CBL,SAS,CABLE HD,T310

Cable for PERC 7

Y690K -  ASSY,CBL,PERC7,SAS,CBL HD,T310

H710 is not a supported controller for T310. S300 controller is supported on T310. You can use SAS RAID on T310 without backplane. You need to use below cable to connect T310 drives to S300. These cable will connect drive to the controller without backplane.

Thanks. What is a sas card do i need that as well?

I've read idrac is remote config. Do i need one of these?

Where do these cards physically plug in on the motherboard please?

Is there a diagram or video anywhere?

Thank you for helping a newbie.

S300 and PERC 6 are RAID controller supported on the server. Below are the various PERC controller supported on PowerEdge T310.

PERC H200
PERC H700
SAS 6/iR
PERC 6/i
PERC S100 (software based)
PERC S300 (software based)

You can refer below link for more details on T310 technical specification

https://i.dell.com/sites/csdocuments/Shared-Content_data-Sheets_Documents/en/T310-SpecSheet.pdf

All these are PCIe card which will get inserted on PCIe slot of the server. You can refer "Expansion Cards" section on page 114 of below link on PCIe slot supported and how to insert these cards

https://downloads.dell.com/manuals/all-products/esuprt_ser_stor_net/esuprt_poweredge/poweredge-t310_owner%27s%20manual_en-us.pdf

T310 server model come with 2 drive bays. One without backplane (Cabled hard drive) and one with backplane. Connecting backplane on cabled hard drive system is not supported. If your server does not have backplane then you need to connect hard drive directly to the PERC using one of the below cable depend on which controller you have.

Cable for PERC 6

D385M -  ASSY,CBL,SAS,CABLE HD,T310

Cable for PERC 7 (H200/H700)

Y690K -  ASSY,CBL,PERC7,SAS,CBL HD,T310

You need to have a PERC controller and supported cable to connect the drives to the controller and create RAID. iDRAC is not required for above configuration and you can use controller BIOS to create RAID
