Dell EMC PowerEdge R640: Unable to configure NVMe RAID
BIOS Version: 2.8.1; System Mangement Engine Version: 4.1.4.381; CPLD Version: 1.0.6; UEFI Compliance Version: 2.7.
Under IDRAC > Configuration > BIOS Settings > SATA Settings, I have Embedded SATA set to RAID Mode.
Under IRAC > Configuration > BIOS Settings > NVMe Settings, I have NVMe Mode set to RAID.
Under IDRAC > Configuration > Storage Configuration, I have three controllers to choose from: BOSS-S1, CPU.1, and PERC H740P Mini (Embedded).
I choose CPU.1, and have only one section available: Physical Disk Configuration. This shows the following table:
| Name | State | Hotspare Status | Capacity | Media Type |
| PCIe SSD in Slot 6 in Bay 1 | Ready | Not Applicable | 1788.5 GB | SSD |
| PCIe SSD in Slot 7 in Bay 1 | Ready | Not Applicable | 1788.5 GB | SSD |
| PCIe SSD in Slot 8 in Bay 1 | Ready | Not Applicable | 1788.5 GB | SSD |
| PCIe SSD in Slot 9 in Bay 1 | Ready | Not Applicable | 1788.5 GB | SSD |
To the right of each row, there are two additional columns: Action and Apply Operation Mode. These contain dropdown menus. The Action menu has two options: Prepare to remove, and Cryptographic Erase. The Apply Operation Mode menu has three options: Apply Now, At Next Reboot, and At Scheduled Time. Finally, each row has Discard and Apply buttons.
Unlike the BOSS-S1 or PERC H740P Mini, there is no Controller Configuration or Virtual Disk Configuration. I have nothing but a listing of physical disks. Though they show as Ready I don't seem to have any way to configure them as a RAID.
I figured, maybe IDRAC won't let me. So, I open virtual console, press F2 at boot, and in System Setup, I navigate to Device Settings > DELL EMC PERC S140 Configuration Utility > Virtual Disk Management. Everything is grayed out. So, I back up a level and got to Physical Disk Management > View Physical Disk Properties. It shows "Unable to display physical disk properties as there are no physical disks currently detected." So, I go back up two levels to the Configuration Utility, then Controller Management > Rescan Disks. It does not find any disks.
FYI under DELL EMC PERC S140 Configuration Utility > Controller Management > View Controller Information, it shows UEFI Driver Version: 5.5.2-0006 and Firmware Build Time: Apr 7 2020 11:46:54.
Please help.

Hi,
Can anyone provide an update on it? I am experiencing a similar issue. I'm just trying to determine whether Dell is intentionally selling people PowerEdge server configurations containing a PERC RAID card & NVMe disks knowing they are incompatible.
