Dell PERC 6/i Integrated Firmware Update fails with inventory error
Hi everyone,
I am trying to update the firmware for R610 servers (RedHat 6.6) with this firmware but i get the following error
Dell PERC 6/i Integrated Firmware Update: SAS-RAID_Firmware_F96NR_LN_6.3.3-0002_X00.BIN
~]$ ./SAS-RAID_Firmware_F96NR_LN_6.3.3-0002_X00.BIN
Collecting inventory...
.....
Inventory collection failed.
I stopped the Dell OMSA service & Server Administrator Storage Management Service before update.
I dont see this error if I try an older version :
Dell PERC 6/i Integrated, v.6.3.1-0003, A14: SAS-RAID_Firmware_W83M2_LN32_6.3.1-0003_A14.BIN
Please help

Hi,
Can you try and update the firmware through the lifecycle controller to make sure that the controller will take the update? It looks like it is trying to find the controller and is not able to.

Sure, reboot, press F10 during post to go to the lifecycle controller. Once there choose platform updates. You can either load the Windows version of the update from USB. It uses the Windows version regardless of what OS is actually installed. http://www.dell.com/support/home/us/en/dhs/Drivers/DriversDetails?driverId=F96NR&fileId=3427527091&osCode=WS8R2&productCode=poweredge-r610&languageCode=EN&categoryId=SF
You can also choose ftp and it can update directly from the Dell ftp site.

The PowerEdge 2900 I inherited from a previous admin did not have the utility partition, and I ran across the same problem with the firmware update for the 6/i under an up-to-date CentOS 6.6 installation. It ran fine while booted from a CentOS 5.6 Live CD, available here:
http://archive.kernel.org/centos-vault/5.6/isos/x86_64/
N. B., the old version of firefox on that image does not work well with the Dell support site. I transferred the firmware update binary from another system.
Cheers

Josh,
Do you know when there will be a fix for this? Seems new to OM 8.1. I have several servers that need the update and going through the System Services takes a while.
Running manually in the OS gives:
[root@NAME02 ~]# date
Thu May 28 12:33:57 EDT 2015
[root@NAME02 ~]# /mnt/watchkick/INSTALLS/files/SAS-RAID_Firmware_F96NR_LN_6.3.3-0002_X00.BIN
Collecting inventory...
......
Inventory collection failed.
[root@NAME02 ~]# date
Thu May 28 12:34:27 EDT 2015
Thanks, Andy

I'm having the same issue on an R610 that appears to be tied to OM 8.1
Dell?
Thanks,
Brian

Same issue on an R710 using the Dell Repository Manager linux deployment iso. Collecting inventory fails trying to update Perc 6/i controller to 6.3.3 from 6.1.1. Do we have to upgrade to an intermediate firmware version first? If so, which version?
Thanks,
Lambri

Hello Darryl,
Root cause of problem is subroutine "sasdupie" from "SAS-RAID_Firmware_3P52K_LN_6.3.3-0002_X00.BIN" that fail while trying to use "libstorelibir.so.5"(or newer) located in /opt/dell/srvadmin/lib64, where for normal operation "sasdupie" expect to have "libstorelibir.so.3"(older than 5).
We may fix the problem next way:
(We presume that in path "/opt/dell/srvadmin/lib64" we have also "libstorelibir.so.3")
Find more detailed explanation here:
