Dell Perc 6/i adapter SCSI Disk Device, How do you add more storage space?
Hey guys! We have a PowerEdge t410 server that has a Raid 6 configuration. Now i dont have much experience with RAID. I was recently given the task to expand our server storage. So i went to Best Buy and bough a 1Tb SATA drive to install in our servers like i have done many times before with other machines. When i opened up the server to my surprise there were 6 hard drive bays and they all had a Hard Drive in them. I took a look and they were all in increments of 250GB. I assume that 3 are mirroring 3 in a RAID 6 configuration beause when i hit Ctrl R and went into the RAID configuration utility it says RAID 6 in there. Now it scared the beegezus out of me because when rebooted the machine it kept giving errors and when i checked in the bios it said something about a drive being degraded!! It ended up fixing it self after i verified that all connections were in place about an hour later. My question is how do i go about adding more storage space in this type of configuration. Im scared of wiping or losing data if i dont have much experience configuring RAID. Thank you for your response and help.

Robert thank you for your response. I didn't even know about the OMSA. I have downloaded it to check the details of your inquiry but I cant sign in? Is there a default Username/Password? I have tried using my network credentials to the domain that have administrative rights and it does not accept it? I keep getting an error wrong password. I have tried using domain\username format and still nothing.

Add https://yourservernameoripaddress:1311 to IE's Intranet zone, make sure IE ESC is disabled, and try opening it again.
Don't check the AD box for login, even if using an AD user (must be local admin (like Domain Admin)).

Thank you very much for that TheFlash1932 that worked! now I don't even have to login it automatically logs me on. So I found some interesting information regarding this RAID setup Roberto~ I will upload pics that you can see but I am guessing that some of the hard drives are bad maybe and need to be replaced?? There are 6 physical drives in the PC when I opened them up?? It shows Connector 0 and Connector 1, each of which have only 2 physical hard drives showing as online. One view shows a Virtual Drive as degraded?? Do I need to find out which physical drives are bad and swap them for the new ones? I really need to learn RAID!

When I open up the Server there are 6 physical disks in there. But I don't think they are all showing up virtually. I only see 1 Virtual Disk 0 and that's it which I find strange. Virtual Disk 0 Has a Connector 0 Which shows Physical Disk 0:1 and 0:3 and Connector 1 which show Physical Disk 1:4 and 1:5. So not sure what's going on? I'm assuming 2 hard drives have gone bad maybe? Thanks for your help.

This is the reason:
You can log in manually, but this is much easier ... you just have to log in as a local admin.

Ok great information Robert. A few more question if you don't mind. I did as you say and started rebuilding them and they went to that state but when I checked a few hours later it went back to ready?

yes its still showing as degraded? Should I unassign those two drives as dedicated hot spares? And can I ask why are only 4 physical disks showing instead of the 6 I see in the server? Is it because two are bad?
Thanks for your help.

Robert I went to go reboot the server and now I am not able to boot to the operating system? It says to check for loose connections or cables that might have been undone but I have double and triple checked and everything is connected correctly I even reseated the raid card and it still won't boot to the OS? Please help.

Hi,
I have a problem with the configuration of adapter.
I have a server with an Hyper-v core (without GUI) . I manage the server from my PC (win 10 Pro).
Both are configured in Workgroup (no domain).
when I write
https://'ipaddressofmyserver':1311
the browser respond with 'page not found'
What am I wrong?
thanks at all
