So with the original controller, that server will max out as 20TB.
I think the SAS 6 only supports up to 4 HDDs; which would make the max storage 8TB. You would need a PERC 6 or some other controller to use all of the drive bays. I would have to double check the specs to be sure about that though.
I have three Gen3 2900's... 2 with 2x4core cpus, 1 2x2core cpus. All 3 have the optional 6i Perc SAS6 Raid controller in their internal "storage" slots. All 3 also have the optional 1x2 Flex bays.
So are you saying the regular RAC SAS6 card only supported 2TB or both that card and the 6i Perc controller supported 2TB? If the 6i Perc only supported 2TB, would the H700 controller work in those boxes?
The SAS 6/iR supports up to 10 physical disks (with expander hardware) - 4 disks on each of two channels/connectors. HOWEVER, both the PERC 6 and the SAS 6 (NOT the same controller) are limited by technology to 2TB physical disks.
The H700 will support larger disks, but it is not offfcially supported in these systems. That doesn't mean it won't work, in fact, someone has done this and reported success.

Hello
There is no issue. The maximum supported drive size on the SAS 6 is 2TB.
Thanks
