Dell Poweredge T30 SATA passthrough

Hello,

I’ve just purchased Poweredge T30 server.  Inserted NVME and 4 SATA drives and installed ESXI 6.7 on SSD.

Now I want to passthrough my SATA drives to VM, but unfortunately ESXI doesn’t allow me to passthrough SATA controller (I even don’t see it in the devices list).

I switched SATA to AHCI mode in BIOS, but still no luck. All SATA drives are operational, double checked them. BIOS sees them as well as ESXI does.

Am I missing something? Is there any limitations in embedded SATA controller? Should I buy external SATA controller which supports passthrough? If yes, what kind of model you’d suggest, gents?

SOLVED:

If anyone meet the same issue as mine do the following:

add the line below into your /etc/vmware/passthru.map file:

# INTEL SUNRISE AHCI PASSTHRU
8086 a102 d3d0 false

Save file and restart ESXi.

This solution fully works on ESXi 6.7U2 on Poweredge T30.

Hi,

ESXi 6.7 is not a validated OS on the T30. You could try a pcie sata controller.
