Dell T320 Raid 1 Hard Drive Failure
Service Tag (Svc Tag removed by Moderator, for security reasons)
The server restarted yesterday and comes up with a message that an operating system cannot be found. It seems the drive is degraded.I ran the test in the BIOS and it comes back with error code 2000-0142, validation 78312. I run a paint store with a Point of Sale ran on this server and desperately need to get it back up. It was configured in RAID 1 and the other drive in the array is fine unfortunately it doesn't have the OS on it and I don't know how to recover the backup on it.I do have a lot of IT experience but none with RAID.
Thanks,
Rob

Xrobwx71,
Could you clarify if you saw that the Virtual Disk was listed as Degraded in the H310 Raid Controller BIOS (Ctrl-R prompt)? You said it seemed degraded, but wanted to confirm if it is listed as such. Also, while in the controller BIOS could you hit Ctrl-N twice from the main page? That will put you in the Ctrl Mgmt page in the controller BIOS, from there can you look at the bottom of the page and tell me if there is anything listed in the "Select Bootable VD" field?
Let me know what you find.

First of all Thanks so much for your response and time.
I am now in the Ctrl Mgmt page. It says the drive is rebuilding. 72% Earlier it would not even show the drive. Then it showed as rebuilding 0% for and hour. Now it's rebuilding at 72% (after multiple reboots).
Also on the page that you asked about in the field: VD 0 558.37 GB

OK! I am back up and running. What I did after the "rebuilding" of said drive was booting off of my Macrium Reflect USB key and choosing its fix mbr function on OS disk.I am now able to boot into the OS and use my Point of Sale system on it and the thin 3 thin clients through RDP. This did it! I am however still getting the projected drive failure "blinks" on the 2cd hardrive in the RAID 1 array. I have ordered 2 identical drives from Dell. When they get here how do I replace the one that is blinking with the new one and not be down again?
Also in the PERC H310 config it is showing only 1 virtual disk, is this correct?

If the drive is a Predicted Failure, which blinks amber and green, and is still online in the virtual disk, then you will need to go to the controller bios or OMSA and force that drive offline. You need to force the drive offline BEFORE attempting to rebuild the drive with the replacement. Otherwise the Predicted Failure can actually be copied over to the replacement.

Thanks again!
Just so I'm clear. I receive the new identical drive. I go into the bios and force the blinking, current drive offline. While server is on, after forcing the drive offline, I unplug the blinking current drive, plug in the new drive and it should auto rebuild like this one did. Will the data, OS, be ok and bootable after the rebuild on the new drive? Again, I am running a retail Point of Sale system on this and the data is critical. I am scared to death....
Thanks,
Rob
