Extend Volume Greyed Out disk management - After adding extra disk to RAID5, reconfiguring.
I added 1 extra disk to a RAID5 Data partition on R720 server, Windows 2008, Perc H710 Mini. Reconfigured using Server Administrator and the extra space shows up on the Data partition I'm adding too. And it's contiguous(shows up right next to existing partition in Disk Management).
BUT in the Windows disk Management software the ability to "Extend Volume" is greyed out.
I rescanned disks and rebooted the server. Option still greyed out.
One disk in the existing RAID5 was a non Dell Certified disk, would that stop the ability to extend volume?
Otherwise out of ideas right now. Thinking of using 3rd party software to expand/extend the RAID5 volume.
Thanks.
Dan

Thank you for the service tag.
When you reconfigure a RAID 5 using OMSA it will rebuild the entire virtual disk. The rebuild can take several hours or possibly days. Did you wait for the rebuild to complete before attempting to extend the partition? I'm not sure if the additional space will be available before the rebuild completes.
Once the reconfigure completes and the additional space is showing as part of the virtual disk in OMSA the space is available to the OS. If the free space meets all of the partition extension requirements of the operating system then you may need to perform additional disk management tasks if it is still not usable. The option to extend the partition should be available from the partition you are wanting to extend. If that option is not available then check to see what options are available on the free space, you may need to initialize or perform some other task on the free space.
Thanks
