This post was for a PERC4, but the same applies to the PERC5.

Do you have experience that this does not work on a 5/i ? I have other replies in another forum that says differently hence the questioning.

Can you link to those other posts? The steps I suggested there should work no matter what, as you're not replacing/upgrading the raid controller and the drives don't play a role in the boot-ability of the OS (as it's just the raid controller and the raid controller driver that play a role in booting the OS).

 

One difference might be partitioning; if you go from a system with the Dell diagnostic partition and copy the partition to a disk that doesn't have the diagnostic partition, your boot.ini points to the wrong partition number for the OS to boot from.

With PERC 5 and PERC 6, you can NOT extend an array using the extra space on the disk.  You can only expand the size of your array by adding more drives to it.
