Firmware Update Using Nautilus
I have a question about a specific drive when running Nautilus.When running Nautilus from a 2950 w/Perc5i. The utility correctly identifies several drives and tests them as Seagate ST9146802SS. When running Update against the drives, it will only test them, and won't update them. The drives are currently on FW S20C.
Nautilus A44 includes a readme that covers the following two firmware updates for this drive:
18.0 Seagate SAS 2.5", 10K, offline download version S20C, for drive models ST9146802SS and ST973402SS
23.0 Seagate 10k SAS 2.5", version S22F for drive models ST9146802SS (146GB) and ST973402SS (73GB)
This machine is running Vmware and Nautilus seems like it's the only tool capable of installing the newer firmware on these drives.
How do I update to S22F?

Thanks for the quick response. I recently updated the BIOS and firmware on this system to the latest versions in advance of installing VMware ESX5i. Everything went smoothly and I've had virtual machines running for about two weeks. In the past couple of days I had drive 0 start flashing amber. Before I could order a replacement, Drive 1 failed. I suspected that my updating the PERC firmware caused some sort of problems with the drives. Was this just bad luck on my part?

The best thing to do is to get a DSET report which will have the controller logs and we can look for errors in there. Run our Linux LiveDVD and from console run dellsysteminfo and copy off the report file it creates. http://linux.dell.com/files/openmanage-contributions/omsa-71-live/OMSA71-CentOS6-x86_64-LiveDVD.iso
It sounds like the array is corrupt though and you will probably need to replace the drives and rebuild.

Both updates contain the same updates based on the release notes, the Windows update package gets a different firmware versionthat allows the live update, but the fixes are the same, so you are up to date.

The drive failure is probably not related to the firmware update. If you can schedule downtime we can run our hard drive diagnostics and test the drives. http://ftp.us.dell.com/diags/DELL_32-BIT-DIAGNOSTICS_5118-3_R212797.exe
Run this and it will create a bootable disk to run the diagnostics from. Choose the 2nd option and then run an express test. Look for errors starting with 4400:xxxx

Drive 0 failed with predictive failure. Drive 1 failed the extended surface scan with medium read error: 4400-011B. Testing the third disk now.

No, that is not normal, it could be a multiple fault on the array and a bigger issue. Do you have server administrator installed? What OS is this running?

I'm seeing the 4400-011B error on the extended surface test only, on multiple drives. Is this normal?

Was running VMware ESX5i with multiple guest OS's.
Server Administrator is not running.
I have full backups of all data, I'm not concerned with the data on the array. Since there were 3 drives in the array and it seemed to fail on the re-build, I"ve since deleted the virtual drive.

After running the GUI diag and selecting only the drives and the controller for diagnostics, Drive 0 and 1 both came back with a 4400-0180 SMART Failure Prediction Threshold Exceeded. Drive 2 passed the basic tests but showed read errors on the extended tests.
I have verified that ESXi 5U1 is supported on the 2950-II and the PERC5i (I did find some people that had issues with the 5i though).
Could this be the PERC going bad? Are there any diagnostics for the PERC5i that are more thorough?
