H700i on T610 gets PCIe training error integrated RAID
Hi there,
My apology that I am still talking about T610 & h700 in 2020. Trying to repurpose an old T610, original PERC H200i works find in the storage controller card slot. Got a H700i (DP/N 0XXFVX with 512M, know nothing about battery if that's even a question) from ebay to replace the H200i which doesn't support drive >2TB. When H700i goes into the storage card slot, booting goes all the way passes NICs then shows "PCIe training error integrated RAID, system halt!". Move H700i to PCIe slot 2 and put H200i back to storage card slot, system boots up with no hassle, run server service, current hardware inventory in UEFI 2.1 shows no entry of H700i at all. Is there any driver/firmware should be updated? I'd like to flash the H700 if there is a way. Any advice is greatly appreciated.
T610 platform is:
BIOS 6.6.0
iDRAC6 2.92
LifeCycle Controller v1.7.5
OS Driver Pack 15.04 A00
Dell 32bit Diagnostics v5162A0
Primary Backplane Fireware Revision 1.09 (seen on POST but not listed in platform information)
When H200i is in, system shows MPT2BIOS-7.11.10.00 (2011.06.02)

IT mode firmware isn't a supported firmware. I unfortunately don't know anything about it and haven't seen the BIOS for it. I really can't comment on it.
As to the controller, you could run hardware diagnostics or export the controller log and review it for errors, but exporting the log would require OS access. As to the description, it sounds like the H700 may well be bad, with the other controller working properly, I would suspect the controller as being the issue.

Hello,
I'm sorry about the problem you are having. The problem may also be with the PER H700 itself. Can you try it on another server? Since you said the H200 is working, I don't think there's a problem with the slot. I found it compatible with H700 T610. There may be a high probability of problems with the card itself. As far as I can see the BIOS looks up to date. You can update iDRAC to version 3.3. https://dell.to/3rAM5T0 This problem usually arises when an unknown control is installed. I have no experience with flashing. If the H700 you received has already been flashed and changed to IT mode instead of IR mode, for example, the system may not be able to recognize it. PERC controller comes as IR mode by default.
Hope this helps!

Hi Erman,
Reposting after hiccups at Dell's tech site.
Your apply is appreciated. As the tower hasn't been running for years, I want to rule out the cause of any out-of-date drivers, and yes you are right it could be the H700i. I'd love to try the card on another box if available. Is there a way to verify if the card is in IT or IR mode?
It states in H700 technical guide at https://www.dell.com/downloads/global/products/pvaul/en/perc-technical-guidebook.pdf
The DellPERC H700 and H800 are supported with 11thGeneration Dell PowerEdgeservers and managed through common Dell OpenManage™Storage Managementsoftware(minimum version 6.2).For pre-OSconfiguration, the PERC BIOS utility can also be used to configure and troubleshoot the PERC H700 and PERC H800 products
I know nothing about this Openmanage, is it an application for an operation system (Linux or Win etc)? Is it required for the hardware to see the H700i? Which one should be installed if I have to? Download site gives me some dozens when filter with 'openmanage'.
Is there an alternative of H700 if the T610 wants to house drives >4TB?
Thank you and Happy New Year!

Hello,
OpenManage Server Administrator is a software management solution offered for Dell servers. It is not required for the system to use the PERC, because it must be installed after the OS.
As to the controller question, the H700, the H800, the H200, and the PERC6i are the only supported controllers for this server. That's not to say that you couldn't get another controller working, but there isn't one I could suggest.

Hi DylanJ,
Thanks for the answers. Given my situation described in the first posting, is there a way to verify if the H700i is in IT mode, or it's faulty.

I guess I'll have to look at elsewhere for another controller, thank you.
