HOT SWAP
Hello!
I bought a DELL BASE POWEREDGE R410 SERVER with PERC H700A RAID Controller, 512MB Cache, for Hot Plug HDD Chassis.
Now I would like to change a HDD, actually I want to try how HOT – SWAP works :-) The drives are in RAID 5.
Could you please describe how to do that properly?
The technical manual describes that I need a proper RAID management software to do that…
Could you please send me a direct link to a appropriate software for this kind of a RAID controller?

Hi Kiruna,
Assuming that your installed operating system supports hot swapping and also assuming that you have installed the Perc H700A drivers for your operating system (either when installing your operating system or afterwards), then you have everything you need for your system to support hot swapping. Hot swapping is controlled by the RAID controller in the background.
There are programs out there that allow you to manage your RAID arrays - for example, Dell have OpenManage Server Administrator that can do just that - but the act of removing and connecting a hard drive whilst the system is running depends on the RAID controller drivers and the operating system.
If you want to try out OpenManage Server Adminstrator, please go to the Drivers and Downloads section of the Dell Support Site here: http://support.dell.com

Hi Kiruna,
Yeah, that's the version of OpenManage Server Administrator that you can use in your server. If you have any problems, please let us know!
