How to uninstall a RAID controller??

I have an "Intel 82801 HR/HH/HO SATA RAID Controller".  I'm done with it - it needs to die.  How do I find the card - I don't know what it looks like or where it is?

In addition to removing the card, I'll uninstall the Intel driver software - is there BIOS options to reconfigure as well?

It's a Dell XPS 410 desktop.

Thanks in advance for any info...

Good point about losing the data - if I know for sure that will happen, I'll plan accordingly.  However - I should mention that it's a RAID mirror configuration (I forget the configuration numbers / tech jargon for this), NOT an interleaved configuration.  i.e. redundant copies of everything on both physical drives.  So, will I still lose everything?

I'm surprised to hear there's no controller card to remove - I'll have a look at the bios settings.

Thanks!

If it is a Raid 0 configuration then it is definite that you will lose all your data. If it is a Raid 1 then it is suppose to be mirrored and you should not lose your data, BUT it is always the best practice to do a complete system backup, before you break the array.

You do know you will lose all your data when you break the Raid setup? The raid contoller is built into the chipset so there is nothing to remove. As to the settings go into the bios and make sure you SATA controller is set to raid auto detect/ata
