I need to replace drive (O/S) Drive 0 in a raid 5 array - Power Edge 4300

I am new here at this loction with a Dell Poweredge 4300 with a Perc2. I am presently waiting for delivery of a new (/used) WD (exact model of original) drive to replace drive 0, which ha failed. My concern is, of course, that it is the O/S drive. What concerns do I have?  This is a 10 year old machone with no Backups. -Jay

If the server is still running the OS, you should be able to hot swap the drive and the array should rebuild on the new drive.  On the outset that it doesn't start, you will need to add it as a hotspare using the Array Manager and then it should join the array once its finished.

Was your OS drive not part of a raid 1 or raid 5? Your server should have been able to boot just fine with a single drive failure if all drives are part of a raid 1 or raid 5.
