Install linux on R410 with SAS 6 raid controller
I have an R410 with 4 250gb HD's installed as RAID 0 with a SAS 6 controller.
I'm trying to install CentOS onto this machine but the only drive available for install is the USB stick which contains the OS to install. The installer does not recognize the drives at all. I read in another forum that you have to have a H200 controller or better in order to get Linux to install to the raid. Is that true? I am really hoping to make this work without changing out any hardware.
Thanks!

Hello,
What version of CentOS are you trying to install? I haven't tried to install Linux on a system with this RAID controller, but I do see a RHEL6 driver. I'll link to it below. I believe the S series controllers didn't support Linux, but I'm seeing a driver listed for the S300 for RHEL6, too. I do know that the drivers being loaded into RHEL changed at one point and this was an issue for older controllers. You hopefully just need to add a driver.
There's a second link listed below, but it's a thread where someone had a 2950 with a SAS6 ir and they appear to have installed RHEL 5.2. It's an old thread where he was trying to update a driver, but he does appear to have gotten the system working, aside from the update issue. I don't think it'll be of help to you, just that it demonstrates that Linux should be an option with this controller.

Thanks for the response. I am trying install version 7.9.
I will try the driver you suggested and see if that helps. If not, I will go ahead and upgrade the controller to H200 as I believe that will work without any issue.

I am finally getting back to this. I was able to install a H200 card on my R410 but unfortunately I was still unable to get the CentOS to recognize any drives in the array (RAID 0 or RAID 1). I'm sure there is a way to make this work, perhaps a very simple solution, I just can't seem to find it. Any input would be greatly appreciated! Thanks!

Hello,
If you're looking at the same version of Linux, you might see if RHEL6 gives you a different behavior. If it does, you'll have identified it as a driver issue.

Good idea! I'm going to try that.
