Monitoring of server alert based on led indicator.
Hi All,
There is a requirment to monitor server states through LED indicator. So that if any of the LED indicator goes to fault state. It will throw an alert to the system admin. So we found that there is a tool Dell OpenManage Server Administrator" to monitor thr Dell server alerts.
So we need to know the following things:
1.Is the tool is intigrated with server or it's a licensed version.
2.How we will set up the monitoring.
3.How we will set up the alerting.
4.Is it possibile to intigrate with any other Tool.

Agoffar,
Actually with the older servers you would install OpenManage Server Administrator (OMSA) on the server and then a tool called OpenManage IT Assistant on the system to monitor from. With the more current systems it is now done with OpenManage Essentials. You would actually be able to configure SNMP alerts to be emailed in case of faults.
If you let me know what server models, or generations, you are using I can give you the information you need.

Hi Chris,
Thanks for your Input..
We are using POWEREDGE 1850/2850 and POWEREDGE R805.
It seems we need to install OSMA in each of them, Please confirm.
Second query: Do we really need OME/OM IT Asst.
I mean If OSMA is available in the server can't they respond to snmp queries(Fault related OID)
Or
Can't OSMA be configured to send snmp traps to a snmp receiver(other monitoring tools), where we can analyse/build alerting logic

Since you span from 8th generation to 10th with your servers you would need to use OpenManage IT Assistant (ITA), as OpenManage Essentials only covers the newer servers.
You can find the download to the management station which includes ITA here.
Now with ITA you will have OpenManage Server Admin (OMSA) installed on the server and ITA at the monitoring system. You can find OMSA here.
Here is the manual to setup and install ITA.
Let me know how it goes.

Yes and no,
You can configure OMSA with the SNMP, but OMSA itself won't alert. The supported way would be by using OME or ITA. You CAN configure OMSA with a "other monitoring tool" under the Alerts Setup, or you can script a net use broadcast message as well.

Can you please guide us the way,How we will intigrate the alerting procedure with other tool or ITA with OMSA. Also can you please provide us the link of ITA software binary file to download and install for OMSA Version 6.5.0
