Non-ECC Memory in PowerEdge Server

Hello, I have a PowerEdge 830 w/ two sticks of memory (apparently ECC) which I would like to replace. I recently acquired 8GB (4x2GB) of DDR2-800MHz memory that will fit into the motherboard, but is non-ECC. Since I only occasionally run apps on the server, I don't really care if it has ECC memory. It also appears as though I can turn error checking off, so I'd like to use the new memory rather than send it back. Is there any reason that it wouldn't work? I can still return the memory if I don't open the package. Thanks.

ECC memory comes in three different types:  Unbuffered, Registered (buffered), Fully-Buffered

All PowerEdge servers (nearly all servers of any brand and some high-end workstations/PC's) require ECC memory.  The 830 requires Unbuffered ECC memory.
