OS mirrored with two different sized disks
Hi guys,
I'm having difficulty getting through Dell support, maybe you can point me in the right direction. I have a poweredge server that I need to build and mirror its OS. The issue is that one disk is 146GB (15K, 3gbps) and one is 300GB (15K, 6 gbps). I know that the larger disk will be reduced in size and that the mirror can be created. But, is this something that Dell supports? are there any drawbacks in case of rebuilding the mirror after a failure?
Dell part numbers: 341-8718 (146GB), 342-2078 (300GB)
I've done some searches on the internet but I find a lot of "should work", "shouldn't be an issue", etc. I'd like to get a more definitive answer.
Thanks!

Yes, it will work and is supported by Dell, AS LONG AS both disks are certified for use on your controller (Dell co-branded - which with Dell part numbers, as described, they should be fine).
Just know that only 146GB from each drive can be used, and, depending on your controller, the 6Gbps may operate only at 3Gbps.

Thanks Dell-Todd and Flash1932, I think it's safe to proceed. I also finally got a hold of a Dell technician to confirm that there would be no drawbacks in case of a mirror rebuild. I had no idea about using the remaining unallocated space as additional storage, thats a good tip. Thanks again guys.
