PE840, PCIe Training Error: Slot 1

On my second SAS5/iR PCI-e SCSI card for this PE840 server.  The server kept freezing up, so I ran diags and got nothing but some recent errors referring to  Correctable ECC errors on DIMM2_B.  After the restart, now the server won't boot.  Getting the same "PCIe Training Error: Slot 1, System Halted!" as from 3 weeks ago, when I first replaced the SCSI card. (the card is a Dell GU186 (a.k.a. SAS5/iR PCI-e))

Trying to find another SAS5/iR PCI-e SCSI card, but they are scarce.  Any suggestions for a replacement, and is there some other problem going on that could be causing the server to freeze and/or the SCSI card to fail?

I appreciate any and all suggestions!  Thanks!

Hello all. think how supprised I was when I got the same error on my machine. And as I wanted to start the standby machine, that wasn' t started ever since it was bought, I got the same error there too!!!??? Is there an expiration date for the controller or the mainboard. Our 3year support allready expired. what to do now? I really would apreciate a halping answer. Kind regards

We bought 11 of these PE840 at the same time. Five of them failed for the same reason almost at the same time, very suspicious. On one them we replace the SAS/iR card twice and all failed a couple of weeks later. What we did is to take a good card, power on the server and virtualize it while we can. If the HDs are in Raid 1, you should be able to plug the SAS drive to the built in SATA port, the server will boot but you'll lose R1 redundancy. then add any brand raid card, load the driver, shutdown the server, plug your SAS drive to the new raid card, boot and rebuild the R1 array.
