PERC 6/i battery failed

Hi,

On a couple of 1950 servers here in our DC, both with a 6/i controller, OMSA is reporting the state of the batteries as "failed". We've replaced the batteries 3 times on each (with new batteries) and updated the controller firmware to the latest one with no change.

On one of them we just replaced the controller with another 6/i (then I also updated its firmware) but the battery is still being reported as "failed". Any ideas where to go from here? This is what OMSA reports:

Name Battery 0
State Failed
Predicted Capacity Status Failed
Learn State Idle
Next Learn Time 89 days 23 hours
Maximum Learn Delay 7 days 0 hours
Learn Mode Auto

Thanks in advance.

Thanks for your question.  What version of OMSA is installed on these servers?  Have the logs been cleared?

Regards,

Hi Geoff, thanks for the reply.

One has 6.5.0 and the other (where the controller's been replaced) has 6.2.0. I've cleared the logs in the past couple of weeks and once again today.

OMSA 7.3 is available for these servers: http://downloads.dell.com/FOLDER01679890M/1/OM-SrvAdmin-Dell-Web-WIN-7.3.0-350_A00.exe  Include the storage option when installing.   Were these batteries purchased through Dell or a third party source?  There is a possiblity the batteries were on the shelf too long and failed when they were inserted and charged.   We have seen this on a number of times.

Hi again.

Thanks for the link, updated OMSA, no change to battery status. Though we don't buy them directly from Dell, we only buy the official ones and in this case, the batteries were bought back in March, so don't know if that scenario would apply, what do you think?

Thanks.

Ugh... sorry about that, one is a R410... apologies, there was a 3rd server (the 2nd 1950) with battery problems but a standard swap fixed it, for some reason kept the model # in my head.

The batteries may be a bad batch, which does happen on occasion.   It looks like its consistent on the controller or when its swapped.   I would check on a Dell battery and test with it.

Sorry for the late reply. They are Dell batteries, but I'll try another.

Thanks.
