PERC S100 Rebuild Raid 5 Array
I have a PowerEdge T310 with a PERC S100 3-disk Raid 5 array. After a power outage the server will not boot. It looks like it is booting up normally but after a few minutes I am back at the BIOS display with no indication why.
When I go into Ctrl R it says that Disk 0 is ready and Disk 1 and 2 are Raid 5/Degraded. It seems like the controller decided that disk 0 is not part of the raid array. Why won't the server boot with 2 disks working? This is what raid is for, right?
Anyway, I assigned Disk 0 as a Hot Spare in hopes it will then rebuild the array. Is there anything I need to do to start the rebuild? The S100 BIOS doesn't say that it is rebuidling and I don't see an option to tell it to rebuild. I exited the S100 BIOS and have left the server powered on and sitting on a screen in the NIC BIOS but I don't know if the array is rebuilding or not. I will check in a few hours to see if it has been rebuilt but I have a feeling nothing is happening.
Thanks,
Bob

No, the rebuild will happen automatically when the drive is set as a hot-spare. Did you see any mention of "foreign" as you were trying to get things going?
Try booting to your OS disk to 1) see if it recognizes the OS installation, and 2) to repair it if it does.

I'm not sure if the S100 will actually show a status/progress - I haven't (and wouldn't) use an S-series controller. In any case, it is unlikely that, even if it is rebuilding/does rebuild, it will change your situation.

Yes I believe that initially the BIOS showed a new drive that was Foreign/Non-Raid. When I figured out that this was disk 0 I deleted it and then made disk 0 a Hot Spare.
Does the Hot Spare disk change its description after the rebuild is complete? I would think it should show as part of the Virtual Disk instead of being a hot spare after the rebuild.
