The alarm is silenced usinig the properties of the perc. Select the adapter and right click, look in the syb menu for alarm control, then select silence.
Ah, found the option. Thanks everyone. For my particular driver/software version of the Server Administrator web client, I did this (for future reference):
On the tree on the left, drill down to the PERC adapter in question and click it.
On the right, click on the "Information/Configuration" option.
Down below, you'll see a drop down list of "Controller Tasks" which include options such as "quiet alarm" and "disable alarm".
Don't know how I missed that the first 3 times through. :)
Thanks again!

i have an inspiron 1520 (vista OS). there has been a few occasions while using it (one of those times i was on the net), that my 1520 emitted a warning sound. i do not know what it was warning me of, but i do recognize it as being a warning sound. in the past, i restarted the 1520 and would not hear this sound again for maybe another 10 days or so. this perc controller that you are speaking of, how would i be able to ascertain if this is the sound i am getting? i ran a hardware check and the system passed. i have another vista laptop that i've had since june and have never heard a similiar noise. they do seem to run hotter than a desktop, i was wondering if this is a possibility. sure do appreciate your input.
This discussion is actually referring to the PERC raid controllers found in Dell's PowerEdge servers. Your laptop won't have this controller, so you must be experiencing something unrelated. -joe
You may want to post in the
General Hardware section of the notebook forum as they would be of better assistance to you. This forum is for Server & Storage.
In SCSI PERC cards made by LSI (PERC 3 PCI Cards and all PERC 4), you can silence or disable the alarm from the Raid controlelr BIOS (accessed by CTRL-M during POST).
Go to Objects -> Adapter -> Alarm Control
There you will have three options:
Silence: Silences the alarm until the next reboot
Disable: Turns the alarm off, you will have to return to this point and enable the alarm if you ever want to hear it again.
Enable: turns the alarm on after is has been disabled
