Perc 5/iR RAID hdds firmware compatibility

Hi,

I have PE sc 1435 servers with LSI Perc5/iR RAID sata/sas controller.

My HDDS are all Seagate Cheetah T10 ST3300555SS 300Gb firmware T105; I bought a HD replacement but raid controller indicates it how "wrong type".

May be a firmware problem?

or is simply broken?

If there is a firmware problem, can I upgrade old HDD (without loss data)? or downgrade new HDD?

regards,

Maurizio

Incalluce,

If you are certain the drive is the same kind then I would say that it is that the controller is out of date on the driver and firmware.

I assume you are referring to the SAS 5/ir and not the Perc 5/i in the server. Here are the links you will need for the updates.

Driver - http://www.dell.com/support/drivers/us/en/19/DriverDetails/Product/poweredge-1435sc?driverId=FF6F6&osCode=WNET&fileId=3176121136&languageCode=en&categoryId=SF

Firmware - http://www.dell.com/support/drivers/us/en/19/DriverDetails/Product/poweredge-1435sc?driverId=8H8XX&osCode=WNET&fileId=2953980616&languageCode=en&categoryId=SF

Let me know if this resolves the issue.

my card have just the firmware Dell SAS 5/iR Adapter, v.00.10.51.00.06.12.05.00 , A04

I have tried the HDD in another identical server with the same result

do you think that differents firmware is not a problem for raid?

Have you run the HDD update utility or have you manually updated the hard drives firmware yet?

Hi,

I don't have the HDD update utility software for update HDD firmware, where can I download it?

I suppose  that  the update utility is for windows platform, usually I have some problem with maintenance software because i use a Gentoo linux distro...

What do you suggest to do?

  1. upgrade a old HDD
  2. downgrade new HDD

where can I check the supported firmwares of SAS 5/iR raid adapter?

regards,

Maurizio
