Removing the PERC would be an option. This would allow you to use the onboard SATA controller, which would use a different driver. Cent 8 got rid of mptsas, which would have affected a few generations of server, including the 12G family that the R220 belongs to. Let us know if you run into any other issues, there are a bunch of helpful folks in the community.
