PowerEdge R710 6 SAS HDD and 1 internal SSD
Hi all,
I have a PowerEdge R710 with 6 SAS HDD.
Hoping someone can tell me, can I buy a standard SSD and plug it into the internal SSD place inside the server. I can't seem to find a definitive answer and dell support really drag their feet.
Thanks for any help,
/James

Thank you for your reply.
We've decided to go with a internal PCIe SSD card. It provides twice as much read/write per second than a SATA SSD and almost twice as much IOPS. Only £50 more.
Total £154 for 50GB (fine for caching random IO)
Dell quoted us £1,000 for a lesser product.

I think Dell has only certified their SSDs to be used with the PERC H700. You can try the PERC6i, but don't be too surprised if you get odd behaviour, especially if you opt to use a non-Dell SSD.

I have a very similar issue at hand and am wondering how this "work around" has played out in the past 6 months or so for you.
Please let me know.
Thanks
