PowerEdge T110 with PERC 6/i controller ...
Hi !
I'm looking for a good SAS RAID5 controller to add to my PowerEdge T110 server because i'm actually running a LSI Logic SAS 3442E and the performance is really poor ! (system configured in RAID5 on 3x 146GB 15k SAS isn't able to get more than 50 MB/s ... really poor for RAID5 SAS 15k !!!)
I'm facing a problem with a card i bought recently -> Supermicro AOC-SLP-S8iR which isn't able to load its BIOS ROM due to lack of memory of the SERVER BIOS OPTION ROM memory capacity. (I tried all i could ; flashed last firmwares even not released ones by contacting Supermicro support which is very good by the way and flashed server bios with latest 1.3.4 ; contacted Dell support too and managed to send my request to the motherboard manufacturer ... no luck too)
So i want to sell these cards and get an eventual PERC 6/i instead which could do the trick.
I'm here to ask if someone managed to get this card (or another one) working with this server ?
My goal is to have a RAID5 with good performance as i'm running ESX on this server and need good I/O.
Thanks !

Oops ... please excuse me, i was meaning Perc 6/i.
It seems that this card is not supported ... but ... i hope to
I looked here first : http://www.dell.com/content/topics/topic.aspx/global/products/pvaul/topics/en/us/raid_controller?c=us&l=en&cs=555
I wanted to tell you that i didn't need a big server as it is a home server for eventual work use because i'm an IT consultant and need to create tests environments very often.
I'm satisfied with this server as from now except the fact that it is not running my Supermicro card equiped with an Intel IOP348 chip.
Because it could breaks the performance levels actually obtained ...
PS : Topic renamed !

A PERC6E is for external disk enclosures (e.g. the Dell MD1000). Are you attaching an MD1000 to this T110?
A T110 is not a good start if you need a good performing server for ESX. I'd suggest to look at least at a T310 or T410 (maybe even T610/T710).

From your own link, might I recommend an H200, which is a hardware RAID controller (although it has no on-board cache), in a RAID 10, if you can find/purchase the adapter. The only advantage a RAID 5 has over a RAID 10 is that it only requires 3 disks to implement, where the RAID 10 requires 4. A 3-disk RAID 5 would yield the same storage space as a 4-disk RAID 10, but you would see much better performance and reliability out of a RAID 10. If it were me, I would take save the money (and headache) of purchasing the unsupported PERC 6/i and buy the supported RAID card and an additional drive.
