The 1950 does not officially support the "SAS 6 HBA".  It is an "external" controller, and It is also not capable of RAID.

If you mean the SAS 6/iR, then the drivers should be built into 2008 R2.

If you are truly using a SAS 6 HBA, then you need this driver for 2008 R2, although I'm not sure how you would have set it up to use the internal storage:

However, your problem sounds to me like bad media - corrupt download, burn, DVD, etc.  Try some or all of the following:

  • Burn your image again
  • Burn your image using a slower speed
  • Burn your image using different software
  • Burn your image using a different drive/computer
  • Download the image again
  • Download the image using a download manager that will ensure the integrity of the file
  • Try a different brand and/or type of DVD
  • Try installing via USB after ensuring your downloaded ISO is valid/uncorrupted

Install via USB (2008 family and later):

I would forget about XP for now.

Wow. I was reading about slower burns working and decided to try that with the external usb dvd rom.

I burned @ 2x with Imgburn. The put my external usb dvd rom to boot from cd.

The installation was very slow, it took my Dell Poweredge 1950 on Bios Revision 2.7.0 about 6 hours to install fully!!

It ran very slow but steady, it was what seemed risky but the installation finally completed!!

Thank you for your help. I still want to know how to do the usb version and make the other HDD work. But my problem is resolved!!! Thanks!!!!!!!!!!
