Poweredge 2600 Hard Drives
Hi
I am setting up a new server for a charity using a donated poweredge 2600.
I need to buy some 18 GB scsi hard drives, and have been looking at 2nd hand ones on ebay to save costs.
From reading the server specification, it says to use U-320 drives, but the more popular and cheaper drive seems to the U-160.
Am I ok using U-160 drives in the PE2600 or do I have to use the U-320 drives. The charity also use some old PE 6400 servers which I am sure are using U-160 drives, so would like to keep them consistant if possible. Is it possible to mix U-320/U-160 drives in the same raid array on the PE 2600?
Can I also confirm that it is the 80 pin scsi drive and not the 68 pin type??
Finally, what is the part number for the caddies?
Cheers
Andy

It can use U320, but will also work with U160 drives. If you have any need for performance on this machine, then you should go U320. BUT, I would do all or nothing ... mixing them within the same array is not wise.
Any "hot-swap" SCSI drive - or a drive connected to a backplane (removable from the front of server) - will be an 80-pin drive. 68-pin drives are cabled SCSI drives.
There are several part numbers for the carriers ... 9D988 is one of them.

Hi,
Thanks for the answers and the offer.
I would be interested in the disks, but I gather you are not based in the UK given the phone number you quoted.
How much would you be wanting for them and how much would the postage be??
Cheers
