Process to resize currently Dell PowerEdge R730xd RAID 6 array to smaller size while preserving existing OS data

I have a Dell PowerEdge R730xd server which is installed in a RAID 6 array spanning 12 hard drives. The size of this array is currently 9.3 TB and has Server 2019 installed.

What is the process to resize the current Raid Configuration using the Dell utilities to a smaller size so that I can create a second partition or array where I can install Server 2022?

I have already booted into the Lifecycle Controller utility and the only options I have seen so far will resize the array but in the process will erase all data on the current RAID array. I would like to be able to resize the current RAID array to a smaller size so that I can create a new RAID array where I can install Server 2022.

What is the process for doing this?

Hello,

With PERC RAID controllers, it has features to expand the existing Online RAID array. However, there is no feature to reduce it. You can reconfigure your RAID array via OMSA or under System setup by choosing PERC card. I will be sharing two videos here. How to change RAID level or size of a configured virtual disk https://dell.to/3JnfHvU

Reconfigure a virtual disk with OMSA https://dell.to/32CGUdg;

Always remember to back up your data before attempting to reconfigure the RAID array.

I would like to remind you that Windows server 2022 is not officially supported for now. You may encounter that OS does not run properly.

Hope that helps!
