R510 12 bay server sata bios questions

We have several R510 servers, 12 bay that we are deploying.  One of our configuration needs is to utilize the onboard sata port(s) with sata dongles.

Going into the BIOS (v1.6.3) I do not find any SATA configuration option line as specified in the manual (as optional)

Do I need to update the firmware?   Somehow "activate" the onboard SATA ports so they show up in the BIOS ? Update the BIOS (not preferred) ??

Thanks,

Charles

Hello Charles

The SATA ports are disabled on the 12+2 versions of the R510. Older versions of the BIOS would allow you to view and change SATA settings, but when the server was restarted all of the ports would go back to an off state. I believe the SATA settings have been removed from the BIOS options list in newer versions of the 12 drive configuration.

The 12 drive configuration does not support an internal optical drive or any other device that would use those SATA ports. The two internal SAS/SATA drives that are supported use the PERC and cable from the backplane.

Thanks

with satadoms available now, there are devices that could utilise those sata ports. So rather than us reverting back to older bios releases, and reenabling the sata ports on every restart, could we please re-enable the sata ports in the next bios update. thanks JJ.

Are we any closer to getting these ports reanabled in the BIOS please? I went back to the earliest BIOS it would let me (1.2.12 was the earliest it would let me go to) and still no SATA ports! In my 8 bay R510 I was running ESXi from an SSD connected to a SATA port with my H200 (flashed to HBA) passed to FreeNAS (so it can see physical drives) but now in my 12 bay I can't do this!
