R620 single SSD on raid 0 and trim

Hey, as I don't have sas card on my poweredge that would support nonraid (I had to make multiple one disk raid 0's)

but if im replasing disks with SSD's, I need to get trim support from proxmox / ESXi or can quest VM do it also? (I assume quest cannot do it)?

Hello Zaleo,

From your link Daniel is correct. The controller does not do pass-through. The drive the OS see is the virtual disk created i.e. RAID0, RAID1  and so on.

The TRIM/UNMAP command needs to be supported by the OS, the drive, and the controller in order to work…. Current shipping Dell enterprise drives have high enough performance and endurance so they do not yet support these commands even if the OS supports them. These features are being investigated for subsequent Dell SSD offerings.

Is TRIM supported on PERC9 controller in RAID mode

I hope this helps.

Hi Zaleo,

trim support is a 100% software solution so please check the following thread in proxmox forum.

Did you have any other questions?

ok, my question was badly wroted, I had to ask is "non raid" hack or new raid card only way to get trim support, as otherwere is wroten:

"When you use a hardware RAID controller the operating system has no control over the blocks. Any blocks the operating system thinks it is controlling are virtual, so any TRIM/UMAP the OS is doing is against virtual blocks."
