RAID and ESXI 6

I have a R410 with a Perc S300, 500GB HD 7.2K Sata HDs w/ 16GB RAM - I am looking to install ESXI 6 and have been unsuccessful due to S300 not being supported.  Can you provide some recommendations on a replacement Perc that will work with and run ESXI 6.  Also would recommended Perc support SAS and SATA if we decided to upgrade HDDs.

I've seen Perc 6/i and HD200 but not sure which would be a good replacement for the S300.

Thanks,

The H700 is really the only controller you should consider. The PERC 6 would be fine, but it is 1) a 3Gbps controller, and 2) is limited to 2TB physical disks. The H700 has neither of these restrictions.

Todengr15,

The R410 will support 3 controllers that will work with Vmware. They are the H200 (part U039M), the Perc 6/i (part T774H), and the H700 (part GRXYF for 512 cache, and part 1J8JJ for 1GB cache). All three of those will work, but if you are considering cost over performance then the Perc 6/i will be your best option. For the best balance between the two, the H200 would be the one to go with. Flash is correct in stating the the H700 is the best overall choice, but also cost the most.

Also, all three of these controller will support SAS and SATA disks, just not within the same Virtual Disk. You could have a VD with SAS drives, at the same time you have another VD of SATA drives.

Let me know if this helps.

Thank you - I am new to the community and it is a fantastic resource  - I am actually going to go with the H200 recommended by Chris-H.

Thank you.
