RAM on Perc controller for PowerEdge 2850 replaced on FTP server-now FTP not working
Hello,
I recently needed to replace the RAM for the PERC on a PowerEdge 2850 that would not boot. Once I replaced the RAM and started the server it ran a chkdsk and appeared to come up normally. This server was an FTP server but now FTP is not working.
I have checked the FTP configuration and nothing appears to have changed on the initial configuration. However, FTP is no longer working. Has anyone experienced a similar issue and if so, what was the resolution.
Thanks,
RV

Rv19,
If the Perc dimm was all that was causing the issue, and it has also been replaced, it shouldn't have had an effect on the Virtual Disk. When the dimm was failed the server would have kept hanging, but it shouldn't have had a lasting influence on the Virtual Disk.
One issue I can think of is that when you replace the dimm for the controller, the battery must be removed prior to installing the dimm. The reason being is that the battery causes that slot to be hot, and inserting the new dimm can harm the dimm. Could you confirm if you indeed removed the battery prior to installing the dimm?
Also, would you confirm if you have run diagnostics on the server, or are seeing any additional amber lights or errors?
Thanks.

Hi Chris,
Thank you for the reply. I did remove the battery before installing the DIMM but at a different time. Originally it appeared the battery was the issue but once that was replaced the server was unresponsive. Then at a different time I replaced the DIMM.
I didn't run a diagnostic. The server doesn't have an optical drive and I will need to get a spare USB to try to run it. I did use Dell Open Manage Server Administrator and it shows
I don't see the updated firmware version 522D on Dell's support site for this server. Any ideas on where I can obtain this?
Thanks,
Roger

Hi Chris,
Thanks. I noticed that one and tried to download it but got the message: "The Update Package is running on an unsupported new operating system. Do you want to continue?", so I didn't proceed.
According to Dell Open Manage Server Administrator, the minimum required firmware version is 522D, however, I don't see this on the Dell support site. Shouldn't this be listed on the Downloads page for this server?
It also shows the storport driver version to be 6.1.7601.22589. Shouldn't this be listed on the Mix
By the way the issue with the FTP server not functioning has been resolved. The problem was that the Web Server service was not running.
Thanks,
Roger
