SAS 6/iR RAID controller card model for PowerEdge T110

The model numbers listed for the SAS 6/iR RAID controller cards aren't very helpful on the Dell site, and none of the results really illustrated the difference between each SAS 6/iR in the results listings. Although the SAS 6/iR is offered during configuration of a brand new T110, I can't find any clear part number to order this part from their site (or from third-party sources). Anyone here know if the model number E2K-UCS-61-(B) is a viable option for a PowerEdge T110 server?

Thanks in advance for any help out there with this.

Part number JW063 is the SAS 6/ir that fits in the T105. If you are adding the card in then you may also need the drop cable for it which is KH305.

Have you used this raid controller before?   It really stinks.  No cache, no battery.     Try to go with a Perc 6 whatever...

Thank you so very much for that info, veltech! I don't have any of the necessary parts yet to run a RAID controller with the T110, so the mention of the drop cable really is appreciated :)

I actually have not used this card before... what I planned to do was run RAID1 with ESXi for my home network (I currently run a similar setup using Win7Ult as the host system and onboard RAID1) to persistently run 3-4 VMs for two users at max.

Do you see this card as having performance issues with what I'm envisioning? I certainly appreciate your feedback regarding this device.

We have one ESX host that has this controller.   And while no issues because everything storage wise for the VM's resides on the SAN?    The card is so slow that I feel it effects smooth running of ESX.  Irritatingly slow even if eveyrthing is working.

Thank you for that info, JOHNADCO! I have some decisions to make based on this... ;)

I just try to make sure everybody knows what they are getting into with this lowest end hardware raid controller from Dell.   I don't see anyway you could run a stand alone server on it, or any VM that has any sort of disk access involved.   Not sure what the lowest end Perc 6 is cost wise compared to it, but what ever the cost difference is?  I consider it a bargain.

Does the JW063 have one x4 SAS port or two x4 SAS ports?

Thank you

Hi cgukhal

Part# JW063 has two x4 SAS ports.

SAS Connectors

2 x4 Internal connectors on all systems, with two exceptions: 4 x1 on Precision workstations with controller integrated on the motherboard, no SAS connector on the controller for the blades (I/O is routed though the PCI connector)

You can check it out here:-
