SSD in R710 with H700 controller...how do I manage TRIM?

I have a few R710 with H700 controllers that I want to install SSD's into. I have tested a (Samsung 850 EVO-Series 500GB) in one of them and it appears to work great but I have a question about how TRIM is handled...and whether or not I should be concerned about TRIM issues causing performance degradation over time.

I did my first experiment on a server that is running ESXi 6. The SSD formats and works just fine but ESXi does not recognize it as an SSD. I am a newbie and I do not know if this is important...but my concern is that if ESXi does not think it's an SSD that it will not manage the TRIM properly.

Can someone please shed some light on how TRIM is managed in this scenario?

Thanks.

Hi,

The H700 does not have trim support and since the controller requires virtual disks to be created the OS can’t perform trim either.

Thanks Josh.

Can anyone recommend a controller for the R710 that solves this problem?
