Swap hard drive from one server to another
We got two Dell power edge R710 servers which is not used for long. I'm planning to activate one of server as file server for my company.
Server 1 => 3 hard drive (RAID 5)
Server 2 => 3 hard drive (RAID 5)
My plan was to remove all hard drive (3) from one of server and attach to another server. New server should have 6 hard drive. After transfer HDD, the system only detected 3 hard drive at my RAID controller. Another 3 units detected as foreign. How to configure all these 6 units as single unit for 1st server? Should i delete all RAID controller setting at 2nd Server. Please guide me. Where can i get documentation for RAID controller settings? Anyway advance thanks.

When you put the drives in the server, boot to the controller utility and CLEAR the foreign configuration. THEN you can create a single VD with all the drives. You can't do anything with drives when they are in a foreign state.
