Update PERC H700 firmware on R710 running ESXi 5.5U2

Hello,

Have a production R710 server running ESXI 5.5U2, and OMSA installed. OMSA is telling me that the firmware for our PERC h700 is out of date.

Firmware Version 12.10.6-0001
Minimum Required Firmware Version 12.10.7-0001
Driver Version

00.00.05.34-9vmw

How can I upgrade firmware for controller? Can I install a windows server and execute the windows executable?

File Name: SAS-RAID_Firmware_9FVJ2_WN32_12.10.7-0001_A13.EXE
I've never done this before, usually, I'd convert it to a windows machine and upgrade like that, but I don't have that option this time as this server is in production. Any advice will be helpful.
Thank you

Hi,

Typically the easiest option is to use the platform updates option during POST. Press F10 and go to the Lifecycle Controller and choose the option for platform updates and it will connect to the FTP site and install the updates. Alternatively you can use our Live image and run the Linux updates from there. http://www.dell.com/support/home/us/en/19/Drivers/DriversDetails?driverId=CWF92&fileId=3550743303&osCode=WS8R2&productCode=poweredge-r710&languageCode=en&categoryId=DI

Hi Josh,

Just gave your suggestion a try and unfortunately, it did not list the h700 as a possible update candidate. Moreover, I also moved all the VM's to another ESXI platform and installed win2k8r2 standard but when I ran the Windows flash utility, it comes back saying "This update package is not compatible with your system configuration"

When I was looking into V12.10.7-0001, A-13

http://www.dell.com/support/home/us/en/04/Drivers/DriversDetails?driverId=2948G

I noticed that under campatible systems it does NOT list the R710.... So I thought maybe I don't need this? But OMSA throws me off when it says minimum firmware... Confused :(

Thanks for the help!

GM Josh,

Got the update to work. When I put my service tag into the website, it only gave the integrated version and not the adapter. I had to google and search the dell website and came across this one

http://www.dell.com/support/home/us/en/19/Drivers/DriversDetails?driverId=2948G

This is the correct firmware I needed. Server accepted the package and I was able to update it.

Thank you for the follow up!
