Upgrade Perc H200 to H700
We are using a R515 server with a H200 controller and a RAID5-array of 4 Sata disks with XenServer and some VMs. We are confronted with very slow disk i/o and are therefore thinking of upgrading to a H700 controller. If we do so, will it be possible to keep our current array with all data on it? Or shall we have to build a new array?
thanks
Chris

Very little chance. Unless you have settings screwed up in your OS/application, then there is virtually no way that an H700 will suffer from the poor performance inherent in an H200, although I can't say or promise what kind of performance you will see.

You will have to backup your data and VM's, install the H700 and recreate the new arrays, reload your OS and restore your data and VM's. There isn't an upgrade path from the H200 to the H700.

Sorry Geoff ... sure there is an upgrade path ... the User Guide and Technical Guide says this is supported:
Virtual disks that are created on the PERC 6 and H200 family of controllers can be migrated to the PERC H700 and H800 controllers without risking data or configuration loss. Migrating virtual disks from the PERC H700 and H800 cards to PERC 6 or PERC H200 is not supported.

That's great news.
Just to be sure: is there any chance that we won't benefit from the better H700 performance if we don't do a new install from scratch?
