Using various SAS drives in various servers and with various PERC cards
I am a home user/hobbyist. I have r710/r510/r520/r330.
I am running into issues with certain SAS drives ...none larger than 2TB being blocked.
The H700 and H710 are used in the r710 and r520 respectively. I can’t remember what is in the r330.
i have updated the firmware for the percs using the drac.
I have googled and looked through here. I have yet to find simple and concise info.
i want to be able to use any dang SAS drive I want. I don’t want to worry about dell certified... I don’t want to worry about 512 or 4kn...
simply tell me what I need to achieve the above with the internal drive bays on the machines.
Dell....your sheet is worthless when it only goes back to the x30 series.
Is there a newer hba card that will replace the percs and can hook up to the internal backplanes in the r710, r520, r330?

Hello Efigalaxie,
I can understand the desire to use any SAS drive you want and you can. We do not prevent you from doing this. However Dell has validated firmware on our drives to work with the firmware of the PERC controller for reliability reasons among others. We do not have a list of all non-Dell drives that work or do not work so your mileage may vary.
Your question spans several generations of PowerEdge server and associated PERC:
R710 (11th gen) / r510 (11th gen) / r520 (12th gen) / r330 (13th gen)
For specifics please see the support site for the particular server.

The compatible PERC controller is dependent on the server generation.
