Virtual disk failure. The Check Consistency completed with uncorrectable errors
Hi all,
I have 2 PE2950 servers...One is failing for "Virtual disk failure. The Check Consistency completed with uncorrectable errors"
Both servers are at the same firmware / driver level yet one is fine while the other is failing.
Hard disks themselves show no errors ie: red x
Logs say all 3 physical disks have media error, which I find highly unlikely... Sounds like the array is corrupt.
I previously installed SUU 6.5.1.19....there is now a newer SUU available 6.5.3 will I try download this and see if there are newer RAID Firmware / drivers?
Current Driver Versions
DELL PERC 5/i Integrated RAID Controller Driver, Driver, 2.24.0.32
PERC 5/i Integrated Controller 0 Firmware, Firmware, 5.2.2-0072
error from logs
Array disk failure. Patrol Read found an uncorrectable media error., Controller 0, Connector 0, Physical Disk 0:0:0
Array disk failure. Patrol Read found an uncorrectable media error., Controller 0, Connector 0, Physical Disk 0:0:1
Array disk failure. Patrol Read found an uncorrectable media error., Controller 0, Connector 0, Physical Disk 0:0:2
Any Help appretiated
Ray..

The SUU and the FTP Site are usually behind the web-site. That is patches seem to be done quarterly on the FTP and SUUs and in between DUPs are posted to the web to be added to DRM SUUs.
That said it appears DELL is working on a v7.0.0 SUU that is due to be released soon.
Looking at the web-page for this model, www.dell.com/.../555, and checking in the last 90 days there are three patches related to drives, two that are dated Jan 31st, 2012 and one Mar 13th, 2012.
Are these applicable to your setup ?

I would want to have a consistent set of Firmware Revs... for that matter I would want my BIOS / Firmware updates at the latest rev....

Hiya,
I downloaded Dell SAS Hard Drive Firmware Utility and created a boot CD.
Upgraded fw on the hard disks.
All Hard disks are at REV D207 except the hotswap.
I ran the consistancy check again and still failing accross all HD.
I also ran the dell diagnostics, HD self test
only 1 HD passed ( ID1), the rest failed with "either the device is busy or another process is using it.
If I run the same diags on an identical server all 4 HD pass diags ?
HD 3 on error server is a new HD so I don't see how this can be faulty.
I read somewhere that rebuilding the raid could sort my problems.
Any idea about the best way to go about this without losing any data ?
